Bring your own garment to the “Local wisdom”-project in Oslo this sunday, get photographed and inspire others to reuse old garments.
The clothing consumption worldwide is becoming an increasing problem. Therefore scientists are trying to find new and much more environmentally friendly fabrics, and the idea to re-use old fabrics and clothes in innovative and new ways are on the agenda.
“Local wisdom” is a project that was initiated by Dr Kate Fletcher, reader in sustainable fashion at London college of Fashion, and author of “Sustainable fashion and textiles: Design journeys.”. She did this to inspire people to think in new ways when it comes to clothing, by creating photo shoots in different locations such as San Fransisco, Berlin, and London.
The Norwegian brand Sca ulven is an example of a brand that aim for good ethic and sustainable solutions in the production of their label.
- We think “Local Wisdom” is a great initiative, and hope that it will raise people’s awareness of the longevity of their clothes, Sara C. Andersson, designer of Sca Ulven says.
She hopes that more people will want to treasure their garments for years, instead of constantly buying new and cheap ones.
Participate this sunday!
You are invited to come and join Dr Kate Fletcher in the “Local Wisdom”-prosject, with the only condition that you bring a special garment, and that you are willing to be photographed wearing it. The garment must be something with a story, something versatile, or attention catching.
